The Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia will open its 2002-2003 season with the musical, She Loves Me, Sept. 3-Oct. 20.
The upcoming season represents the 20th anniversary for the company at the historic 1809 playhouse. Thomas Jefferson attended a show here, and players as diverse as Edwin Booth, Edwin Forrest, Houdini, George M. Cohan, Mike Nichols and Jessica Tandy trod the boards.
The fall staging of Bock and Harnick's romantic masterpiece, She Loves Me, begins at Maine State Music Theatre before moving south the Philadelphia. The Walnut Street season includes:
- Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music, Nov. 5-Jan. 5, 2003.
- Neil Simon's Bright Beach Memoirs, Jan. 14-March 2, 2003.
- Harley Granville Barker's The Voysey Inheritance, the family drama focusing on a British family in 1905, March 11-April 27, 2003.
- Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Evita, May 6-June 29, 2003.
