News PHOTO CALL: A First Look at New Musical Timmy the Great Timmy the Great, the new musical based on the children's book "King Timmy the Great" by Sandra Hochman and Tad Danielak — which was inspired by Polish martyr Janusz Korshak's book "King Matt The First" — began performances Aug. 15, prior to an official opening Aug. 18, at Theater for the New City.

A First Look at New Musical Timmy the Great

Joan Javits, Vivian Schulte, Eric Javits, Jr., Seventh Leopard, Rigmor Newman, Dr. Francis X. Clifton and Ron Tal present the musical, which is directed by Julie Arenal (Hair) and casting director Jay Binder. Arenal also serves as choreographer.

Written by Sandra Hochman with Stevie Craig and Gary Kupper, and featuring lyrics by Hochman and Kupper with music by Kupper, the cast features Ricky Altamirano, Zach Brod, Caley Crawford, Cormal Cullinane, Tommy J. Dose, Anna McCarthy, Lisha McKoy, Clyde Voce, Jason Pintar, Jared Riley, Anna Grace Rosenthal and Andy Schneeflock.

Here's how the musical is billed: "Following the death of King Edward the Sensible, nine-year-old Timmy inherits the throne of the Kingdom of Hearts. The children of the kingdom want to be treated as adults – they stage a revolution and occupy the palace lawn to demand change. The adults organize a counter-revolution. If the children get the rights of adults, then the adults want the rights (and freedoms) of children. Capitalizing on the Kingdom of Heart’s unrest, three neighboring kings – the comic trio of King John the Nervous, King Andre the Gluttonous, and King Marvin the Slow-Minded – seek to take over the country. King Timmy, with his childlike wisdom, devises unconventional solutions to thwart the devious kings. Timmy the Great is a fantastic musical for revolutionaries of all ages." Edward Pierce is the production consultant. Performances continue through Sept. 1.
