Jennifer Li and boyfriend James Beneduce, of Eastern Long Island, had taken in Thursday evening's show from the onstage bleacher seats — Li's sixth time at the Tony-winning musical. Hunter Parrish, currently starring as Melchior, stopped the curtain call in order to make a special announcement.
With the help of costar Alexandra Socha, Parrish brought the couple to centerstage where Beneduce got down on one knee and asked for a shocked Li's hand in marriage. The teary bride-to-be quickly answered yes in front of a cheering, emotional cast and audience.
Spring Awakening continues to play the Eugene O'Neill Theatre at 230 West 49th Street.
The new jukebox musical featuring the songs of Huey Lewis and the News follows a Chicagoan whose failed band leads to him returning to corporate America.
