Joe Lanteri directed the 7:30 PM awards ceremony that featured performances by Cesar Corrales (Billy Elliot) and New York City Ballet's Russell Janzen.

Jacques D’amboise was the recipient of the 2011 Douglas Watt Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony.

The Astaire Awards were established with the cooperation of Fred Astaire to honor him and his sister, Adele, who starred with her brother in ten Broadway musicals between 1917 and 1931.
