Former talk show host Phil Donahue, his wife, actress Marlo Thomas and opera singer Jessye Norman were among the attendees at The Green Bird's opening night April 18. Produced by Theatre for a New Audience in 1996 after a run at the New Victory, The Green Bird is translated from the 18th Century play by Gozzi about a king who longs for his lost wife while brother-and sister twins search for their true identities. Bird, running at the Cort Theatre, takes its magical, other-worldly atomosphere from the mask and puppet skills of The Lion King director Julie Taymor.
