News PHOTO CALL: Beautiful Soup Theater Collective's A Doll's House and A Doll's Life The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective presents productions of the short-lived musical A Doll's Life and the classic play upon which it is based, A Doll's House, in repertory beginning Jan. 24 in Greenwich Village. Together, the pieces are billed as Nora in Rep.

Beautiful Soup founder and artistic director Steven Carl McCasland directs the musical, which features musical direction by Jeremy Robin Lyons. The cast includes Mallory Berlin as Nora, Thomas Dolan, Jonathan Grunert, Mario Castro, Joseph da Fonseca, Anna Kirkland, Alex Pagels, Jordan Shaner, Margaret Dietrich, Lisa Crosby Wipperling, Jordan Tierney and Tal Yardeni.

The 1982 musical A Doll's Life features a score by Larry Grossman, with book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The notorious flop, which closed after 18 previews and 5 performances, was directed by Hal Prince and starred Betsy Joslyn, George Hearn and Peter Gallagher. The musical, according to press notes, "begins with Nora's infamous doorslam as she leaves Torvald Helmer and chronicles her journey after marriage." Despite its failure, the show received several Tony Award nominations, and an original cast recording was released on the Bay Cities label.
