The Jesus Christ Superstar and Pippin star will offer the evening of song through July 21. It promises "a high energy tribute to the music of Broadway, along with musical selections made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr."
Vereen will perform such songs as "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries," "Mr. Bojangles" and "Defying Gravity." Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen was also captured for a live CD that is currently available.
A Tony Award winner for his role in Pippin, Vereen has also appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Fosse, Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair and I'm Not Rappaport. He was also featured in the television miniseries "Roots."
Cover charge is $50-$60 with a $30 food/drink minimum. 54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street.
The production will include Bernstein’s incidental music for Lillian Hellman’s adaptation of The Lark, and Menotti’s The Unicorn, The Gorgon, and The Manticore.
