Jonathan Tisch, chairman and CEO of the Loews Corporation, speaks at the Sept. 11 prayer vigil held in Duffy Square on the first anniversary of the terrorist attack on New York City. He was joined by League of American Theatres and Producers president Jed Bernstein and The Tale of the Allergist's Wife's stars Marilu Henner and Richard Kind.

Many shows marked the anniversary by remaining dark, dimming their marquee lights and by finishing the night with a curtain speech from the likes of Kathleen Turner, Harvey Fierstein and Brad Oscar and a audience-cast singing of "The Star Spangled Banner" or "God Bless America." At Hairspray, set designer David Rockwell even configured the show's Lite Brite-styled backdrop to display the American flag.
