Couple Says "I Do" at It Shoulda Been You

“We’re both really, really excited,” said Harter. “We’re very adventurous people, always looking for new things to do. After seeing a performance of It Shoulda Been You, with it’s theme of taking chances in life, we knew this would be an amazing opportunity.” Reuck added, “I’ve dreamed of being married on a Broadway stage since I was 17. I can’t believe it’s actually happening!” At previous performances of It Shoulda Been You, audiences have been treated to several surprise proposals. On Wednesday, April 22, Sam Bianco proposed to his girlfriend Chelsea Leonard; on Saturday, May 2, Oleksandra Petryna said “yes” to her longtime boyfriend, Nazariy Bobelyak; and on Friday, May 22, A.J. Lorenzini proposed to his boyfriend, Jesse Salinas.

The production stars Tony Award winners Daly (Mothers and Sons, Gypsy) and Harris (Thoroughly Modern Millie), as well as Burtka (Gypsy), Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera), Lisa Howard (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Edward Hibbert (Curtains), Montego Glover (Memphis), Josh Grisetti (Peter and the Starcatcher), Michael X. Martin (The Bridges of Madison County), Anne L. Nathan (Once), Nick Spangler (Book of Mormon) and Chip Zien (Into the Woods).

Conceived by Barbara Anselmi, It Shoulda Been You has book and lyrics by Brian Hargrove, with music by Anselmi and additional lyrics by Jill Abramovitz, Carla Rose Fisher, Michael Cooper, Ernie Lijoi and Will Randall.

Tony and Emmy winner David Hyde Pierce (Curtains, "Frasier") makes his Broadway directorial debut with the production. He also staged its 2011 George Street Playhouse premiere. According to the creators, "In the hilarious and heartwarming new musical It Shoulda Been You, it’s a culture clash for the ages when two families from wildly different backgrounds come together to celebrate a wedding.  As if the union wasn’t complicated enough, the bride’s ex-boyfriend arrives, bringing the wedding to a screeching halt and throwing both families into hysterical chaos. Plots are hatched, promises broken, secrets exposed – and the bride’s resourceful sister is left to turn an unmitigated disaster into happily ever after. It Shoulda Been You puts a refreshingly modern spin on the traditional wedding comedy, proving that when it comes to wedding day insanity, it’s all relative."

The creative team includes Anna Louizos (set design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Ken Billington (lighting design) and Nevin Steinberg (sound design).

The musical is produced by Daryl Roth, Scott Landis, Jane Bergère, Jayne Baron Sherman, Patty Baker, Broadway Across America, Clear Channel Spectacolor, Gloken LLC, James L. Nederlander, John O’Boyle, and Judith Ann Abrams/Jacki Barlia Florin.

Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com or by phoning (800) 653-8000. The Brooks Atkinson Theatre is located at 256 West 47th Street.
