The event - held at the Neil Simon Theatre - was presented by Inside Broadway, an organization that has introduced over 750,000 New York City children to the musical theatre through its various programs and presentations.

Open to school and senior groups as well as the public, Creating the Magic featured "performances by and interviews with cast members and a display of technical stage effects," according to press notes.

In a statement, Inside Broadway founder and executive director Michael Presser said, "Everyone would like to go behind the scenes on Broadway. We give them an insider's look at how the magic of theatre is created and introduce some of the important people who create that magic. It's entertaining as well as educational, a perfect combination."

Participants included Hairspray cast members Kevin Meaney (Harriman F. Spritzer), Marissa Perry (Tracy Turnblad), Niki Scalera (Penny Pingleton) and Ashley Spencer (Amber Von Tussle) as well as musical director Lon Hoyt.
