At a Jan. 8 preview of the Broadway-bound One Mo' Time at Chez Josephine, Smokey Joe's Cafe's BJ Crosby let loose on three numbers: "After You're Gone," "Kitchen Man" and "Muddy Waters." The 1979 musical, which ran Off-broadway and was seen regionally, will also star Vernel Bagneris (the director and creator), stepping and singing in the enterprise that recreates one sultry night in 1926 at the Lyric Theatre in N'Awlins, where greats like Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey wailed their sweet and blue music. In the show, Big Bertha's touring vaudeville song-and-dance act primps and bickers between numbers on stage. Previews begin Feb. 21 at the Longacre Theatre for an opening March 6.
