News PHOTO CALL: David Hyde Pierce, Mary Testa, Bryce Pinkham, Michael Mayer and More Celebrate Playwrights Horizons Playwrights Horizons' annual spring gala, In the Beginning, was held May 5 at the event space 583 Park Avenue.

Honoring the theatre company's founding artistic director Bob Moss, the evening was co-hosted by two of the company's alumni actors: Two-time Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Curtains) and two-time Tony Award nominee Mary Testa (In Trousers, 42nd Street).

Participating artists included Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie (Venus in Fur, Chicago), Tony Award winner Richard Nelson (Frank's Home, James Joyce's The Dead), Tony Award nominee Bryce Pinkham (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Ghost the Musical), Chip Zien (Falsettos, Into the Woods) and students from the Playwrights Horizons Theater School at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

The Spring Gala was the organization's largest fundraising event of the year, with donations earmarked to support six annual productions, the development of new plays and musicals, ticket subsidies and programs for students and early-career professionals. The programs cultivate the next generation of artists, arts managers and theatregoers.
