News PHOTO CALL: Designer Tony Walton Wins the Oscar Hammerstein Award Tony Walton, between scenic and costume duties, has designed 55 Broadway productions, garnering 16 Tony Award nominations (with three wins) since 1961. On June 6, he was honored with the Oscar Hammerstein Award for his career.

Walton most recently designed the set and costumes for the Broadway revival of Our Town during the 2002-2003 season. Some of his major productions include the original …Forum, Hurlyburly, the original Chicago, Lend Me a Tenor and Pippin. At left, Walton is seen with Japanese artist Yuka Hasegawa, while below, Ben Vereen, Chita Rivera and Judd Hirsch mingle at the 15th Oscar Hammerstein Awards Gala, at the Hudson Theatre in the Millenium Hotel on West 44th Street in midtown Manhattan. Off-Broadway's York Theatre Company sponsors the Hammerstein Award; proceeds benefit the not-for-profit York, which is devoted to musical theatre.
