Diversified Staging of The Glass Menagerie Opens Off-Broadway
Directed by Christopher Scott, the mission of the staging is to make the classic work more accessible through a racially diverse cast. Amongst the cast are Saundra Santiago ("The Sopranos," "Miami Vice") and Richard Prioleau (HBO's "A Normal Heart") as Tom.
Also included in the cast are Olivia Washington ("The Butler") and Doug Harris (The Found Dog Ribbon Dance).
Performances continue through May 30.
"We hope to offer a fresh look at this amazing masterwork through our diverse cast," said Masterworks Theater Company artistic director Christopher Scott in an earlier press statement. "This production highlights our mission by making these classic works accessible to emerging audiences, emphasizing their universality."
Williams’ semi-autobiographical account of St. Louis in the 1930’s, The Glass Menagerie tells the story of frustrated writer Tom Wingfield and a family desperate to break free of the burdens of their past and present. The last Broadway production was in 2013 at the Booth Theatre, where it was nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Revival.
Tickets can be purchased by visiting ticketcentral.com or by calling (212) 279-4200. The 47th Street Theatre is located at 304 West 47th St., New York.
The new jukebox musical featuring the songs of Huey Lewis and the News follows a Chicagoan whose failed band leads to him returning to corporate America.
