With Dinner With Friends' Best Play nomination (the show has already garnered the Pulitzer Prize), Friends star Matthew Arkin and playwright Donald Margulies are all smiles May 1 at the Drama Desk nominee recognition dinner at The Palm. At right, Andrew Lippa, composer-lyricist of The Wild Party, was nominated for both his words and music, as well as best musical. With him is Drama Desk Best Featured Actress in a Musical nominee Alix Korey, who played the predatory lesbian, Madelaine True in his Wild Party. Bebe Neuwirth will host the Drama Desk ceremony May 14. The 51-year-old Awards comprises New York theatre journalists, critics and writers. Unlike the Tonys and other awards, the Drama Desk honors Broadway, Off-Broadway, not-for-profit and Off-Off-Broadway productions, with categories often sporting nominees from productions big and small, Uptown and Downtown.
