In 1983, La MaMa mounted a production of The Tooth of Crime under the direction of George Ferencz. Sam Shepard's play originally premiered in New York in 1972, but this time, Ferencz staged the entire work as a rock concert. In 1997, Shepard rewrote the the play as Tooth of Crime (Second Dance) which is the only version for which performance rights are available. To celebrate La MaMa's 45th anniversary, though, Shepard is allowing one more production of the original script with Ferencz directing and Ray Wise reprising his Obie-winning role as Hoss.
