In the Heights, according to Walnut, "tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner coffee shop is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes and dreams where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. With a gripping story and incredible music and dance, In the Heights is the next chapter in the classic American story." The musical, conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda, features a Tony-winning score by Miranda and a Tony-nominated book Quiara Alegría Hudes.

Other members of the creative team include musical director Douglass G. Lutz, set designer Anna Louizos. Louizos, lighting designer Paul Black, costume designer Colleen Grady and sound designer Ed Chapman.
