NewsPHOTO CALL: Judy Kaye, Alexander Gemignani, Nick Wyman and Alexandra Silber Star in Six Wives at the YorkThe York Theatre Company, which is led by producing artistic director James Morgan and executive director Andrew Levine, launched its 2013-14 season with a concert presentation of the musical Six Wives Oct. 28.
Six Wives features book and lyrics by Joe Masteroff and music by Edward Thomas. The musical, according to the York, "tells the story of Henry VIII, the larger-than-life English monarch, and the six extraordinary women he married: Anne Boleyn, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, Katherine of Aragon, Jane Seymour, and Katherine Parr. This five-person musical reexamines Henry VIII's historical image from a modern day perspective—with two women playing all six wives." York produced the world premiere in 1992.
This production will be recorded for release on the JAY Records label. The cast will head into the recording following the York concert.
The original York cast featured Tovah Feldshuh and Kim Crosby as the six wives with Buddy Crutchfield and the late Rex Hays as the messenger and minister, respectively. King Henry was played by Steve Barton, who passed away in 2001. This concert and recording are produced in his memory and supported by Maria Candil.
The Max Martin musical features a number of his most beloved songs, including “…Baby One More Time,” “Roar,” “Since U Been Gone,” “It’s My Life,” “I Want It That Way,” “Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” and more.
