Tony Taccone directs the new production, which features two sections; Comedy on the Bridge, "an absurdist commentary on war written in Czechoslovakia in the thirties" with music by Bohuslav Martinu; and their adaptation of Brundibar, "an allegory of innocence triumphing over evil" with music by Hans Krása. In 2003, Kushner and Sendak published a children's book of Brundibar. At left, Euan Morton (of Broadway's Taboo) and Henry DiGiovanni are seen in photos from the production. Below, the entire company performs the show on the spectacular set, created by production designer Sendak, with assistance from Kris Stone.
Comedy on the Bridge/Brundibar runs through Dec. 28 at Berkeley Rep's Roda Theatre.
