News PHOTO CALL: "Laura's Turn" Benanti Honored with Sardi's Caricature Friends and fellow Gypsy cast members were in attendance at Sardi's June 3 when Laura Benanti was honored with a caricature that will grace the walls of the famed theatre-district eatery.

The singing actress is currently appearing as Louise in the critically heralded revival of Gypsy, a performance that earned her a Best Featured Actress nomination is this year's Tony race. She recently won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

New Jersey native Benanti made her Broadway debut at the age of 19 in the ensemble of The Sound of Music, later replacing Rebecca Luker as Maria. Other recent Broadway credits include Julia in The Wedding Singer and Claudia in the Tony-winning revival of Maury Yeston's Nine. She has previously received Tony Award nominations for her performances in Swing! and the revival of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods.
