News   PHOTO CALL: Linda Lavin, Dick Latessa, Michael Esper and Cast of The Lyons Meet the Press

The world-premiere of Nicky Silver's The Lyons, a new dark comedy, will begin performances Off-Broadway Sept. 21 at the Vineyard Theatre.

As previously reported, Mark Brokaw (Cry-Baby) stages the play that stars Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin (Other Desert Cities, Collected Stories, Broadway Bound), Michael Esper (American Idiot, Intelligent Homosexual's Guide…), Gregory Wooddell (Some Men in Philadelphia), Tony Award winner Dick Latessa, Kate Jennings Grant and Brenda Pressley.

The cast greeted the press with an Aug. 23 photo op:

The Lyons will officially open Oct. 11 and continue through Oct. 30. The play marks Silver's seventh work to debut at the Vineyard.

The Vineyard describes the comedy as "an outrageously funny and stirring work about a family grappling with the impending death of its patriarch. When Ben Lyons' wife, Rita, and their grown children gather to say goodbye, they learn that despite being a family, each of them is utterly isolated. Afraid of closeness and afraid of solitude, they are propelled into foreign territory - human connection."

Tickets will go on sale to the general public Aug. 31. Memberships are currently available. Visit VineyardTheatre.org, or phone (212) 353-0303.
