Goodman was fired from The Producers after he replaced Nathan Lane (Steven Weber had replaced Broderick). The respected British actor didn't mope, however, he went right back to work, starring in London's Follies concerts and now, the Roundabout's Broadway revival of Tartuffe.
Admired for his interpretations of Moliere, Brian Bedford stars as Tartuffe's good-hearted, but clueless victim Orgon opposite Goodman as the religious con man of the title. Also in the cast are J. Smith-Cameron as the sharp-tongued maid Dorine, John Bedford Lloyd as Cleante and Kathryn Meisle as Elmire, Orgon's wife and the objection of Tartuffe's lust.
Produced by the Roundabout Theatre, Tartuffe began performances at Broadway's American Airlines Theatre on Dec. 6. Joe Dowling directs the classic Moliere comedy.
