News PHOTO CALL: Matt Doyle, Nicolette Robinson, Grace McLean and Company Save the Borough as Superhero Musical Brooklynite Opens The world premiere of the musical Brooklynite, created by Peter Lerman and Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, officially opened Feb. 25 at the Vineyard Theatre Off-Broadway following previews that began Jan. 30. Performances continue through March 22.

Brooklynite features music and lyrics by Lerman, who collaborated with Mayer on the book. Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Spring Awakening) also directs a cast featuring Matt Doyle (War Horse, The Book Of Mormon), Andrew Call (Found, Rock Of Ages) and Nick Cordero (Bullets Over Broadway).

The cast also includes Gerard Canonico (Spring Awakening), Max Chernin (Bright Star), Nick Choksi (Indian Ink, Natasha, Pierre And The Great Comet Of 1812), Carla Duren (110 in the Shade, Hairspray), Ann Harada (Avenue Q, Cinderella), John-Michael Lyles (Angelina Ballerina), Grace McLean (Bedbugs; Natasha, Pierre And The Great Comet Of 1812), Tom Alan Robbins (The Lion King, Sunset Boulevard), Nicolette Robinson ("The Affair," "Hart of Dixie") and Remy Zaken (Spring Awakening, The Anthem).

"Trey Swieskowski is an idealistic hardware store clerk who dreams of becoming a superhero. Astrolass, Brooklyn's most celebrated superhero, is determined to throw in the cape and live like a normal Brooklynite," press notes state. "When they meet they hatch a plan that will change their lives forever. But can they save Brooklyn when it suddenly teeters on the brink of disaster?"
