Annie's Thomas Meehan and filmdom's Mel Brooks produced The Producers - at least in the creative sense. Meehan, who previously worked with Brooks on "To Be or Not to Be," is co-librettist with Brooks creating the music, lyrics and the book of the musical. The Producers, based on the classic Brooks film and featuring all new songs from Brooks, will open April 19 at the St. James Theatre. Chicago sees the new tuner first with a run at the Cadillac Palace Theatre Feb. 1-25 before Broadway previews begin March 22.
