The Actors' Equity Foundation presented the Joe A. Callaway Awards to Kate Forbes and John Douglas Thompson and the St. Clair Bayfield Award to David Pittu at a Jan. 8 ceremony.
The Callaway Award, honoring "the best performances in a professional production of a classic play (one written prior to 1920) in the New York metropolitan area," was bestowed upon Forbes for her work in Theatre for a New Audience's Othello and Thompson for his performances in that Othello and Irish Repertory Theatre's The Emperor Jones. TFANA Artistic Director Jeffrey Horowitz accepted the award on behalf of Forbes who was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. David Pittu received the Bayfield Award for his comedic turn in the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park production of Twelfth Night. The Bayfield celebrates "the best performance by an actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area."
