NewsPHOTO CALL: Renée Elise Goldsberry, Joshua Henry, Jeremy Jordan, Rob McClure, Rachel York and Cameron Adams Are Going HollywoodGoing Hollywood: MGM Musicals, the first presentation of the 2014 Lyrics & Lyricists series, was offered Jan. 11-13 at the 92Y.
Music director David Chase was featured on piano with associate stage direction and associate choreography by David Eggers.
Marshall, who also hosted the evenings, celebrates MGM’s 1940s and ‘50s golden age: stars from Judy Garland to Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire to Lena Horne and movies like "Singin’ in the Rain," "Meet Me in St. Louis," "Gigi" and others generated by the studio’s “Freed Unit,” ruled by producer/lyricist Arthur Freed.
“What made these MGM musicals so unique was that Arthur Freed assembled an amazing array of talent—writers, composers, lyricists, directors, choreographers and designers—and gave them the freedom and the resources to dream up lavish and original musicals specifically created for stars like Judy Garland, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly,” said Marshall in an earlier statement. “The result was some of the most magical and memorable musical films of all time.”
