News PHOTO CALL: Rufus Wainwright, Jonathan Groff and More Illuminate Dark Sisters Premiere Dark Sisters, the new opera by Sons of the Prophet playwright Stephen Karam and composer Nico Muhly, which explores the world of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, began its world-premiere engagement Nov. 9 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College.

The Gotham Chamber Opera, Music-Theatre Group and the Opera Company of Philadelphia commissioned the work that imagines a raid on a polygamist family after allegations of child abuse. 

Rebecca Taichman (The Scene, Dead Man's Cell Phone) directs the opera, which has a libretto by Karam (Speech and Debate, columbinus) and music by Muhly. Neal Goren is conductor. Performances continue through Nov. 19.

The cast includes Caitlin Lynch, Kevin Burdette, Kristina Bachrach, Jennifer Check, Eve Gigliotti, Margaret Lattimore and Jennifer Zetlan.

The Opera Company of Philadelphia will produce Dark Sisters in June 2012.
