Giovanna Sardelli directs the work that plays through Aug. 8 at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre. Wildflower follows "a woman and her troubled son [who] look to escape their past in Crested Butte, a small town with its own share of secrets," according to Second Stage notes. "They encounter a curious girl, a forest ranger, and an ex-drag queen. The five collide in a summer of botany and sexual awakening."
The production will include Bernstein’s incidental music for Lillian Hellman’s adaptation of The Lark, and Menotti’s The Unicorn, The Gorgon, and The Manticore.
Based on the novel and film by Frank Cottrell Boyce, the new musical will reunite Guettel with Tony-winning Light in the Piazza director Bartlett Sher.
