The production, helmed by TheatreWorks founding Artistic Director Robert Kelley, will play the Silicon Valley venue June 18-July 13 with an official opening scheduled for June 21. Schwartz and book author David Stern will be in residence throughout the run to continue work on the piece, which has previously been developed at the Village Theatre in Seattle and the Human Race Theatre in Dayton, Ohio.
Press notes describe the work as such: "Sue is ready to leave Dan until she stumbles upon a box of old photos chronicling their 30-year relationship. The snapshots, which seemingly come to life, re-enact their lives as teenagers, upwardly-mobile 20-somethings, and their current mid-life crisis, prompting the couple to re-examine their life together. A bittersweet 'musical scrapbook' of a marriage that's lost its way, Snapshots introduces new songs, including the title song 'Snapshots' and 'Making Good' (a song snipped from Wicked during the rehearsal process), combined with some of Schwartz’s most cherished hits, including 'Popular' from Wicked, 'Corner of the Sky' from Pippin and 'All Good Gifts' from Godspell."
The cast features Beth DeVries (who originated the role in Seattle) and Ray Wills (Wonderful Town, The Producers on Broadway) as, respectively, the present-day Sue and Dan. Bay Area favorite Molly Bell (TheatreWorks' A Little Princess, Memphis, Bat Boy) and Michael Marcotte (South Pacific national tour) play the couple as 20-somethings, with Brian Crum (Altar Boyz) and Courtney Stokes (TheatreWorks' Into the Woods) rounding out the cast as teenage Susie and Danny.
