News PHOTO CALL: Stars Attend Cirque du Soleil Banana Shpeel Opening Cirque du Soleil opened its new vaudeville-style theatrical show, Banana Shpeel, May 19 at the Beacon Theatre.

David Shiner (star and co-creator of the Tony Award-winning Fool Moon) is Banana Shpeel's writer and director.

Banana Shpeel is billed as "a roller coaster mix of styles that blends intense choreography, crazy comedy and distinctive acrobatic acts. The show offers a diverse spectrum of performances including tap, hip-hop and eccentric dance, slapstick comedy and Cirque du Soleil acrobatic acts — plus madcap characters spreading chaos in all directions."

The show features an international cast of 38 performers including the main character of over-the-top producer Schmelky, played by Broadway veteran Danny Rutigliano. Assisting Schmelky are two slapstick sidekicks (Daniel Passer and Wayne Wilson) and assistant Margaret (Shereen Hickman).

A star-studded roster of stage, TV and screen personalities turned out to walk the yellow carpet and catch the performance:
