News PHOTO CALL: Swing Week Culminates in Swing! Contest Aug. 23 New York City's first official Swing Week officially came to a close Aug. 20, but the celebration of the '40's dance craze continued on the stage of the St. James Theatre, where Swing! hosted the finalists of the week's dance contest. Pictured on the right are the contest winners, Yuval Hod and Nathalie Gomes. To the left, cast member Beverly Durand beside contestants Dawn Hampton and John Doues. Hampton is the daughter of jazz and swing great Lionel Hampton and once danced at the Savoy and other mid-century swing clubs.
