The two performances capped off six weeks of curtain-call appeals that brought in $3,402,147 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The competition featured the companies of various Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring productions, who offered skits, songs and/or dances as well as a bonnet created specially for the event. Productions that took part included 33 Variations, Avenue Q, Billy Elliot, Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Hair, Impressionism, Jersey Boys, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, The Marvelous Wonderettes, Mary Poppins, Naked Boys Singing, The Phantom of the Opera, Shrek, West Side Story and Wicked.
The Broadway production of 33 Variations took home the prize for Best Bonnet and Best Presentation. The drama also collected $183,546 during the six weeks of fundraising, setting the all-time record for a non-musical.
