News PHOTO CALL: The Hills Are Still Alive After 40 Years with Release of Anniversary “Sound of Music” DVD Some of the original cast members of the classic musical film “The Sound of Music” – which was originally released in theaters in 1965 – reunited on Nov. 10 to commemorate the release of a special 40th Anniversary DVD of the movie.

Winner of 5 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, “The Sound of Music” brought Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical to millions of people across the world. In addition to giving even further exposure to Julie Andrews, the film also featured a young Christopher Plummer as Captain von Trapp. Below, cast members Charmian Carr, Debbie Turner, Kym Karath, Nicholas Hammond, Heather Menzies, Andrews, Angela Cartwright and Duane Chase are seen at the release of the 40th Anniversary Special Edition DVD of "The Sound of Music”, held at Tavern on The Green, on Central Park West and 67th Street in New York City.
