News PHOTO CALL: The Lyons, Starring Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa, on Broadway The Lyons, Nicky Silver's darkly comic dysfunctional-family play starring Tony Award winners Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa, began its Broadway life April 5 at the Cort Theatre following its fall 2011 Off-Broadway premiere. It marks the Broadway debut of critically acclaimed downtown playwright Silver.

Lavin (Broadway Bound, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife) and Latessa (Hairspray, Damn Yankees) reunite with fellow members of the original Vineyard Theatre Company run, including Michael Esper (Assistance, American Idiot) and Kate Jennings Grant (Proof, 2009's Guys and Dolls) as their adult children; Brenda Pressley (original Dreamgirls) as a nurse; and Gregory Wooddell (Lincoln Center Theater's Cymbeline) as a real estate agent.

Here's how the play is billed: "The Lyons is a funny and edgy work starring Linda Lavin as Rita Lyons, the indomitable matriarch of a family at a major crossroads: her husband is dying, her son's in a dubious relationship, her daughter's struggling to stay sober and on top of it all, she can't settle on a new design for the living room." Lavin, who got love-letter reviews for playing Rita, won the Best Actress Tony Award for her work as another frayed mother — Kate in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound. Latessa won the Best Supporting Actor for playing Wilbur in Hairspray. Their characters in The Lyons are about the begin the next chapters, while the future us uncertain for their children.
