Meow! The catty girls at the center of the Roundabout Theatre's revival of The Women took a...pause at Urinetown's opening night. The witches (because we can't use that other word) at the heart of Clare Booth Luce's comedy are (front row, left to right) Jennifer Tilly, Jennifer Coolidge, Kristen Johnson, (back row, left to right) Rue McClanahan and Jennifer Butt. The Women begins previews at the American Airlines Theatre Oct. 12. The satiric Urinetown is set in a futuristic urban world where residents must "pay to pee" due to a drought that has plagued the land. When townspeople revolt against the evil corporation that controls the water, what burbles up in the tuner is a neo-Brechtian spoof of musical comedy conventions. Urinetown, which stars John Cullum, Hunter Foster, Spencer Kayden, Jennifer Laura Thompson and Jeff McCarthy, opened Sept. 20 at The Henry Miller after a one-week delay caused by the Sept. 11 World Trade Center tragedy.
