Urinetown got a laugh by taking a shot at bitchy internet chat forums (their t-shirts depict typical internet symbols - a smiley face, nm for "no message" and (.) representing a butt). Their bonnet, worn by Michelle Ragusa, featured a fully functional cherub fountain (guess where it shot water from).

In 2002, the Easter Bonnet competition raised $1,826,392 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Mamma Mia! raised the most money — $162,037 — with Mamma Mia! (as in the first national tour) was first runner-up with $140,077. This was the first time a national tour placed in the Easter Bonnet competition. Oher top fundraisers were Rent ($97,568), The Lion King ($89,548) and The Phantom of the Opera ($84,433). Metamorphoses was the play champion ($102,209), while Naked Boys Singing took home the Off-Broadway prize with $17,605.
