The ceremony was held at the popular comedy club Caroline's on Broadway, on the corner of Broadway and 49th Street in New York City's famed Times Square. Among those in attendancee were Hairspray stars Bruce Vilanch and Jackie Hoffman, Tony Award-winner Anika Noni Rose and Anna Paquin, as well as Avenue Q composer Jeff Marx, veteran Broadway director Jack O'Brien and Harris Doran.

Directed and choreographed by Justin Peck, the show previously played an Off-Broadway premiere at Park Avenue Armory.
