News PHOTO CALL: Wicked Continues to Defy Gravity with 1,000th Broadway Performance As solid a mega-musical hit as there comes, the Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical Wicked reached the milestone of 1,000 Broadway performances on March 23.

Despite being upset for the Best Musical prize by Avenue Q at the 2004 Tony Awards ceremony, the show about the witches of Oz and how they came to be the famous characters we all know them as in “The Wizard of Oz” has gone on to break box office records and sell out nearly every show that it plays.
