Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Ailey Company Opens New Home The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater officially opened the Joan Weill Center for Dance, its new home at Ninth Avenue and 55th Street in Manhattan, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and performance yesterday.
Among the participants were New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, AAADT artistic director Judith Jamison, jazz singer Ella Mitchell, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, the Juilliard Ensemble Brass Band, and young dancers from the company's school.

The new facility is the largest exclusively devoted to dance in the United States, according to the company.
