Classic Arts News Photo Journal: Angela Gheorghiu's First Tosca Soprano Angela Gheorghiu sang the title role of Tosca for the first time last night, appearing in a new Royal Opera production directed by Jonathan Kent.
The opening-night cast also included Bryn Terfel as Scarpia and Marcelo êlvarez as Cavaradossi; Royal Opera House music director Antonio Pappano is the conductor.

Gheorghiu has sung Tosca on film and CD, and performed excerpts at Metropolitan Opera and New York Philharmonic galas. But last night's performance marked her first appearance in a fully staged production.

The production runs through July 8.
