The opera, which had its world premiere in in March 2004 at Houston Grand Opera, was revised for performances in Madison, Wisconsin, in April and was revised again for the Seattle performances. The original libretto was by playwright Heather McDonald; the revised version, which is reportedly closer to Greene's original conception, is credited to McDonald, Heggie, and director Leonard Foglia.
The opening-night cast included Mary Mills as Sarah Miles and Philip Cutlip as Maurice Bendrix; some subsequent performances star Edlyn de Oliveira and James Bobick.
Yves Abel conducts; sets are by Michael McGarty, costumes by Jess Goldstein, and lighting by Donald Holder.
The production runs through October 29.
