News Piazza and Wicked Tunes to Be Part of Fisher's New York Pops Concert The first full season of the New York Pops without conductor Skitch Henderson, who died in November 2005, will feature five guest conductors.

The new season will begin Oct. 20 with guest conductor Doc Severinsen. The 8 PM performance in the Isaac Stern Auditorium is billed as a "tribute from one 'Tonight Show' conductor to another."

Alastair Willis will conduct the New York Pops' Dec. 15 and 16 concerts. The 8 PM evenings will feature The Young People's Chorus of New York City under the direction Francisco J. Núñez. Concertgoers can expect to hear a mix of Christmas and Hanukkah favorites, including selections from "Amahl and the Night Visitors."

Recent Little Women star Maureen McGovern will be the special guest artist at the New York Pops' Feb. 9, 2007, concert. Stuart Malina will conduct the evening, which will boast Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and "American in Paris" as well as other tunes from the Gershwin songbook.

Tony Award winner Marvin Hamlisch will conduct the March 16 evening, which will boast the Juilliard Choral Union under the direction of Judith Clurman. The music of Richard Rodgers will be spotlighted during the 8 PM concert.

The New York Pops season will conclude April 13 at 8 PM with a concert conducted by Rob Fisher. The founding music director of the City Center Encores! series will feature tunes from Show Boat, Chicago, The Light in the Piazza and Wicked.
