Created by artistic director Robert Kimball, Serenade in Blue: The Lyrics of Mack Gordon will be presented at the Y Jan. 29 (8 PM), Jan. 30 (2:30 and 8 PM) and Jan. 31 (2 and 8 PM). The evenings will salute the works of the late Academy Award-winning lyricist, whose 120 hit songs include "I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo," "There Will Never Be Another You," "At Last" and "You Make Me Feel So Young." Performers for the Gordon tribute include two-time Tony nominee Christine Andreas, last on Broadway in The Scarlet Pimpernel; theatre and cabaret star Jason Graae, most recently seen in his acclaimed concert act Coup de Graae; and filmmaker, broadcaster and singer Amber Edwards. Alex Rybeck will be featured on piano with bandleader Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks. Emmy-winning CBS newsman Charles Osgood hosts.
Serenade in Blue: The Lyrics of Mack Gordon, according to production notes, is designed to "recall an old-time radio show, with the brisk pacing and big-band sounds characteristic of the 1930s and '40s, the era in which Gordon wrote. . . . The show features film clips of Gordon performing a few of his own songs, giving audiences a glimpse of the lyricist's charms as an interpreter."
