Lupita Nyong'o, Caitlyn Jenner, Elisabeth Moss, Misty Copeland, Judith Light Strike a Pose at the Glamour Awards Ballerina and Broadway star Misty Copeland was named among recipients of Glamour magazine's 25th Anniversary Women of the Year Awards, which was given Nov. 9 at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Comedienne Amy Schumer opened the awards ceremony, which also recognized Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Holmes, Caitlyn Jenner, Cecile Richards, Reese Witherspoon, the Women of Charleston and the U.S. women’s national soccer team. The evening also celebrated past Women of the Year honorees, including Madeleine Albright, Samantha Power, Serena Williams and Billie Jean King, and feature a star-studded list of presenters and musical guests.

During the evening, Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive honored trailblazers and newsmakers from across the worlds of entertainment, fashion, politics, business and more. "Since 1990, Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards have saluted the planet’s most remarkable female leaders, and this year’s winners are no exception," said Leive in a statement. "They have been inspired and led by the generations of Women of the Year before them, and Glamour is thrilled to celebrate their passion."

As part of the 25th Anniversary, Mayor Bill de Blasio proclaimed Nov. 9 as Women of the Year Day for the City of New York. The Empire State Building illuminated its tower lights in Glamour pink to commemorate Women of the Year Day and "symbolize the millions of women around the world who continue to break barriers," according to a press statement. 

In June Copeland was promoted to principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, the first African-American ballerina to reach that level in the classical ballet company’s 75-year history. She also made her Broadway debut in the recent revival of On the Town. Her memoir, "Life in Motion," made the New York Times best-seller list. For more information visit Glamour.com.
