The classic "Seis Personajes en Busca de un Autor" (Six Characters in Search of an Author) by Luigi Pirandello, was one of the first plays to deal with the theme of alienation, and it explores the adage "perception is reality". Directed by Jorge Lavelli, the renowned Argentine director living in France, "Six characters..." debuts on Apr. 15 at Teatro General San Martin.
Written in 1921, this is a story about a family of fictitious characters that come out from nowhere in the middle of a rehearsal. As the father explains, they are looking for an author. Tormented by the need to tell their story, they urge the Theatre Company to perform their play. Such a material captivates the director, but a conflict arises when the characters try to persuade the actors and the director how the story should be told. Soon they'll recognize that only the characters themselves are able to represent --to live-- the tragedy of their own realities.
The cast includes Patricio Contreras, Rita Cortese, Leticia Bredice, Danilo Devizia, Facundo Ramirez, Lidia Catalano, Claudia Lapaco, Tony Lestingi, and Sergio Corona. Graciela Galan designed the set and the wardrobe. Light design by Roberto Traferrio and Jorge Lavelli.
Performances are Wednesday to Saturday at 9:00 PM, Sundays at 8:00 PM. Ticket prices $8 - $12. For ticketing information please call Teatro General San Martin +54 (1) 371-0111.
