News Pittsburgh Public's Freud's Last Session, Starring David Wohl and Jonathan Crombie, Opens March 9 Pittsburgh Public Theater presents a resident staging of the long-running Off-Broadway play Freud's Last Session, which officially opens March 9, following previews that began March 1, at the Public's O'Reilly Theater.

Directed by Mary B. Robinson, the limited engagement, starring David Wohl (Fiddler on the Roof, Dinner at Eight) as Sigmund Freud and Jonathan Crombie (The Drowsy Chaperone) as C.S. Lewis, continues through April 1.

Here's how the Public bills the production: "The play is set on Sept. 3, 1939, in the study of Freud's London home, where the legendary psychoanalyst is meeting with C.S. Lewis, a young Oxford professor and writer. As they listen to radio bulletins about England going to war, religious views become the main theme of their conversation. Once a skeptic, Lewis now has a profound faith in God, while Freud thinks anyone who believes is suffering from obsessional neurosis. Sometimes shocking, often very funny, always thought-provoking, discussion topics include free will, science, myths, joy, pain, the New Testament, family, and of course, sex. This riveting play delves deeply into the minds, and more surprisingly the hearts, of two rare and brilliant men."

Mark St. Germain's drama about the fictional meeting between Christian writer C.S. Lewis and atheist psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud — in his London study — opened Off-Broadway July 22, 2010, at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theatre. The production ended its run at the Little Theatre Oct. 2, 2011, and reopened at New World Stages Oct. 16, 2011, where it currently plays.

Other members of the creative team include scenic and costume designer Allen Moyer, lighting designer Phil Monat, sound designer Zach Moore, production stage manager Fred Noel and assistant stage manager Adrienne Wells.
