The award goes to "people or organizations that have consistently provided extraordinary support and generosity to the Off Broadway community," and will be presented to Birsh at the 5th annual Off Broadway Alliance Awards Reception 4 PM June 16 at Sardi’s restaurant in Times Square.

All of the 2015 Alliance Awards winners are scheduled to be on hand to receive their awards, including producers and performers from this year’s winners: Best New Musical: Hamilton; Best New Play: Between Riverside & Crazy; Best Musical Revival: Into the Woods; Best Play Revival: Abundance; Best Unique Theatrical Experience: Scenes From a Marriage; Best Solo Performance: Just Jim Dale; and Best Family Show: A Band of Angels.

The Off Broadway Alliance is a non-profit corporation organized by theatre professionals dedicated to supporting, promoting and encouraging the production of Off Broadway theatre and to making live theater increasingly accessible to new and diverse audiences.

Birsh became publisher of Playbill in 1993 and transformed the company from a program printer into a clearing house of theatrical information through the burgeoning Internet. Under Birsh's stewardship, the company added Playbill.com in 1994 and sister websites including PlaybillStore, PlaybillTravel, PlaybillEDU, PLAYBILLder, PlaybillVault, and others. He was promoted to CEO and President of the company in 2014.
