Concerts will be held July 14 at 11:30 PM at 54 Below and July 21 at 8 PM at (le) Poisson Rouge and are the sixth in the Broadway Sings… series. Previous artists honored include Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder and Amy Winehouse.
Performers include Tony winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Andy Mientus (Les Misérables), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), Jason Gotay (Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark, Bring it On), Amber Iman (Soul Doctor), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody, Hair), Mykal Kilgore (Motown, The Book of Mormon), Corey Mach (Hands on a Hardbody, Godspell), Marla Mindelle (Cinderella, Sister Act), Ciara Renée (Pippin, Big Fish), Zak Resnick (Piece of My Heart, Mamma Mia), Shaleah Adkisson (Rent), Darren Bluestone (Avenue Q), Max Chernin, Ariana DeBose (Pippin, Motown), Marcus Paul James (In the Heights), Crystal Joy (Motown), Chris McCarrell (Les Misérables), Jillian Mueller (Bye Bye Birdie), Shannon O'Boyle (Once) and Natalie Weiss (Everyday Rapture).
Hall, DeBose, Johnson and Resnick will perform July 14 only, and James and McCarrell will perform July 21 only.
The concerts will feature covers of Timberlake's "Cry Me a River," "Suit and Tie" and "My Love" as well as popular hits from his legendary boy band 'N Sync. The music will be orchestrated and arranged by Joshua Stephen Kartes and feature a full jazz band.
Broadway Sings Justin Timberlake is produced and directed by Mach. Timberlake rose to fame as the lead vocalist of boy band 'N Sync, and his work has earned him nine Grammy Awards and four Emmy Awards. Jay Armstrong Johnson: "Love Never Felt So Good" (with Michael Jackson). My new obsession is the late Michael Jackson's new album, which features Justin Timberlake (the new king of pop in my opinion). An incredible track and a beautiful way to pass the baton.
Lena Hall: My pick is "Sexy Back"! Such a cool song and such a hot performance. LOVE
Chris McCarrell: "Don't Hold the Wall" is a go-to when I have a Zipcar to myself and can blast it. The slow burn into the bass drop at 4:20 is worth blowing your speakers out.
Ciara Renée: "Blue Ocean Floor." It's nothing like any of his other stuff and completely hypnotic. I often meditate with this in the background.
Corey Mach: It's tough, but "Pusher Love Girl" is probably my favorite song, and this video from "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" proves that it's got a sick groove, amazing orchestrations and fits perfect in JT's voice. Excited for people to hear Mykal Kilgore belt out our jazzy version at the concert!
Amber Iman: "Strawberry Bubblegum" is one of my favorite JT tunes because it's ridiculous. It's a 2-for-1! You get what feels like two amazing songs with two different grooves on one track, it's eight minutes long (that gives you maximum time to get your life) and it RIDES!!!!! Thank you, Justin, for giving us such greatness.
Natalie Weiss: My favorite performance is the Britney Spears/N'Sync performance [of "Baby One More Time" and "Tearin' Up My Heart"] from the 1999 VMAs. It's the sickest remix, and every single time I hear it, I just wanna bust out with the original choreo!
Marcus Paul James: "Gone" (N'Sync). I was happy that JT got a song by himself, and it was a grownup version of N'Sync. It became my go-to karaoke song from here to Japan.
