Polls Who Should Star Opposite Sydney Lucas in The Secret Garden Concert? It was recently announced that Sydney Lucas will star as Mary Lennox in Manhattan Concert Productions' concert staging of The Secret Garden, the musical based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, at Lincoln Center Feb. 21, 2016. Playbill.com took to social media to see who its readers thought should star opposite the young actress.

It comes as no surprise that Daisy Eagan was the first (and most frequent) response to this poll. Eagan won a Tony Award for her performance as Mary Lennox in the original Broadway production of The Secret Garden in 1991. To date, she is the youngest actress ever to win a Tony Award.

In The Secret Garden Martha is a servant who befriends young Mary. The role was originated on Broadway by two-time Tony nominee Alison Fraser, who can be heard on the original cast recording singing "Hold On."

John Cameron Mitchell as Dickon:

John Cameron Mitchell originated the role of Dickon in The Secret Garden on Broadway. Most recently, he starred as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a musical for which he wrote the book.

In The Secret Garden Dickon is Martha's brother who shows Mary how to bring her Aunt Lily's seemingly dead garden back to life. Mitchell can be heard singing "Wick" on the original cast recording.

Michael Cerveris as Archibald Craven:

Two-time Tony winner Michael Cerveris is currently starring as Bruce Bechdel in Fun Home on Broadway, a role for which he won his second Tony. Additional Broadway credits include Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Tommy in The Who's Tommy, Perón in Evita and more.

In The Secret Garden Archibald Craven is Mary Lennox's uncle, who suffers from crushing depression after the death of his wife Lily. The role was originated on Broadway by Mandy Patinkin, who can be heard on the original cast recording singing "Lily's Eyes."

Audra McDonald as Lily Craven:

Audra McDonald won a record-breaking sixth Tony Award for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. She makes her Broadway return starting March 14, 2016, as Lottie Gee in Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed.

In The Secret Garden, Lily Craven is Mary Lennox's late aunt who used to tend to the "secret garden." Lily appears as a ghost in the musical. The role was originated on Broadway by Rebecca Luker, who can be heard on the original cast recording singing "Come to My Garden." Luker will also be appearing as Lily Craven in a one-night-only benefit concert of the musical at the Lucille Lortel Theatre Jan. 11, 2016. 

Jake Lucas as Colin Craven:

 

 

Jake Lucas is currently appearing as Louis Leonowens, son of Anna Leonowens, in The King and I on Broadway. He has also appeared as John Darling in Peter Pan Live and as David in Far From Heaven at Playwrights Horizons, both times playing Kelli O'Hara's son. In real life, he is Sydney Lucas' brother.

In The Secret Garden Colin is Mary's cousin who suffers from an unspecified problem with his spine. The role was originated on Broadway by John Babcock, who can be heard on the original cast recording singing "Lift Me Up."
