Marin Ireland
Marin Ireland

Full given name: Marin Yvonne Ireland
Hometown: Camarillo, CA
Audition monologue: I used to do one from Timberlake Wertenbaker's Three Birds Alighting on a Field. Also Cressida.
Special skills: Boxing, from a show I did — I still like to claim it as a skill. . . sign language, also fading from memory
First Broadway show ever saw: Damn Yankees with Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber. I believe it was actually his last performance, they made a little speech at the curtain call. Totally thrilling.
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? Glass Menagerie with Laurette Taylor. The Lark with Julie Harris. Cuckoo's Nest, as directed by the estimable Terry Kinney. Buried Child (with the estimable Terry Kinney, of course)
Current show you have been recommending to friends: Garden of Earthly Delights. . . and I'm really excited about Next to Normal coming back
Favorite showtune: "Tell Me on a Sunday"
Most played song on your iPod: Grand Machine No. 12, "Electric President"
One CD you couldn't live without: Too hard to pick just one! At the moment: Bright Eyes, "Cassadaga."
Last book you read: "Music for Torching," A. M. Homes. So, so good.
Must-see TV show: "30 Rock." "Top Chef." "Project Runway."
Last good movie you saw: "Coraline" (but I'm WAY more excited about David Greenspan/Stephen Merritt's version. . .)
Favorite board/card game: Apples to Apples
Performer you would drop everything to go see: Eddie Izzard. Jayne Houdyshell. Mark Rylance. Reed Birney.
Pop culture guilty pleasure: Beyoncé. I do love girl pop.
First stage kiss: You Can't Take It With You. I was a junior in high school, he was the cool senior dude. The director knew I was really nervous, so he made us do it like a million times the first time we got to it. I thought I was going to fly apart, like on a cellular level.
How you got your Equity card: Craig Wright's play Molly's Delicious, summer theatre at Mt. Holyoke College. Classic one-week stock.
Worst onstage mishap: One night during Sabina at Primary Stages, I walked out and started the first speech of the play, a direct address monologue, and a woman in the back of the house screamed "Be quiet!!" at the top of her lungs. So I stopped talking. I waited a second and tried again, and this time it was even louder "Bee quiiiet!!!" I stood there in silence for what felt like a full minute. . . finally I started for the third time, and just continued over the person who had resumed screaming, until house management showed up. I discovered later that the person was trying to tell her companion to stop asking her for help with his hearing aid. Because, I can only assume, it was disrupting the play. Yeesh.
Who have you played on "Law & Order"? Which edition? I have achieved the trifecta. "Criminal Intent": best one was the murder victim, pushed down an airshaft by mom, who had mad cow disease. Seriously. "SVU": multiple rape victim who offs herself in the bathtub. Mothership: the bad guy!!! I assisted a couple suicides. This episode had the best cast ever: Brad Dourif, Elizabeth Marvel, Susan Blackwell, Michael McKean... amazing.
Worst costume ever: Children's theatre. Girl Scout outfit plus giant brown permy geri-curl-y wig. I was playing Goldilocks. Completely inexplicable.
Cats or dogs? Both. But at present, a kitten.
Who would play you in the movie? Since Meryl's probably busy, Tilda Swinton
Worst job you ever had: Working in a haunted house in college. I was literally on the rack, screaming, for hours at a time. After one group went through one night, a kid who looked about 10 years old hung back and said to me, "Wow, you really needed a job, huh?"
TV or commercial gig you most enjoyed: Kissing my then-boyfriend all day for a Verizon commercial.
Leading lady role you've been dying to play Desdemona. Marie Antoinette in this amazing play by David Adjmi.
